Evidence Based Practices

This course will familiarize participants with SAMHSA's Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) addiction resources and afford the participant opportunities to examine several addiction EBPs and assess the clinical application of these EBPs. Special focus will be given to EBPs that are consistent with the Indiana Division of mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) programs and initiatives. SAMHSA resources such as Treatment Improvement Protocols, guidance documents, clinical practice policies, toolkits, and other actionable materials that incorporate the latest scientific evidence on mental health and substance use and address Indiana DMHA priority areas will also be highlighted. Teaching methods will include lecture, discussion, case studies and small groups. Attendees will: Develop an understanding of the principles of effective treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs) Become familiar with the most used medications prescribed as part of medication assisted treatment (MAT) for SUD Develop an understanding of the Transtheoretical Model of Change and the Strengths Perspective and their relationships with evidence based practice for SUDs Become familiar with the current evidence-based practices endorsed by the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) This course provides 6 CEU’s for all who complete the course. CEU’s are provided pursuant to Indiana Administrative Code 839IAC 1-6-2(F)(86)
